A Birmingham graduate is taking legal action against the government over a scheme which forces unemployed people to do unpaid work.
Cait Reilly had found voluntary work in the museum sector but she said her JobCentre Plus adviser told her she had to work for free at a Poundland store stacking shelves or lose her benefits. If she had refused she would have faced a mandatory 3 months cancellation of her benefits (including Housing benefit) which would have effectively made her homeless and destitute. This law is going to affect many thousands of unemployed people and families in the next few months. The social riots of last year are going to seem insignificant when compared to the riots that are going to occur this year as a result of this draconian legislation which is designed to destroy the welfare state
Once again the poorest in our community will have to pay for the greed and crimes of the bankers and financial backers of the political parties.
It’s time to fight back. It’s time to say NO!!
