How to prepare for job interview – Job interview skills

So you have an interview on your schedule? One thing to have in mind is the fact that you will never get another chance to give a first impression again, therefore it is highly advisable to prepare to give your best on your interview. Even when you have attended several interviews, more than you can remember; job interviewing has never being easy. The following article highlights various tips on how to best prepare for that job interview. This will help in analyzing the job and give the hiring manager reasons beyond doubt that you are the right candidate to get hired for the job.

Dress code

When going for a job interview, what you wear matters a lot and it is absolutely a vital part on your interview preparation. Carefully choose your outfit, make sure it is well cleaned, pressed and set aside for the day. Also have the appropriate accessories and shoes to go with it. Trying the outfit prior the interview day doesn’t hurt at all and it helps to make sure everything is all right. With that ready and set it is time to focus on other things.

Practice

Knowing the right way to greet your interviewer will set off the right mood and increase the chances of the interview going smoothly. Many people may view it as a small and simple step but you should always know how to go about it. It is always advisable to greet your interviewers with a friendly smile and firm handshakes.

Get ready

Make sure you are well versed with the contents of your resume, this ranges from any work experience to skills listed. Remember your resume is the gateway the employer has towards knowing you well, they may pick anything from it and requested for further explanation from you.

Common interview questions

If you do not have enough information on this; research widely as you will need to have the right answers ready and practiced. One of the frequently asked questions in the interview is “Tell me about yourself” and “Why should we hire you” The employers does not know and that is why they are asking you this, it is up to you to sell what you can offer to the company. It is not necessarily that you have to memorize all your answers; instead let them flow out naturally and intelligently.

Research

Do an extensive research of the company and the job position you are being interviewed for. Have ready questions that you can ask during the interview. If you are not sure of some of the job requirements then you should definitely bring up the issue during the interview process. Remember it shows your commitment and efforts when you go to the interview with intelligent questions, so don’t just ask questions just for the sake of it. The interviewer will sense it.

Time

Keeping time is of paramount importance and this shows your commitment. Allow enough time to navigate through traffic. It is alright to arrive ten minutes earlier but make sure you do not exceed as the interviewer may not be ready for you. In case you are late although you should avoid this at all costs, then it is advisable to notify them with a phone call.
